Double Jeopardy (1999)
Dir. Bruce Beresford
I have this recurring nightmare...
I'm running as fast as I can, completely out of breath, clearly in fear for my life. I sprint down an alleyway only to realize that in the darkness of night—I foolishly picked a dead end. I turn around, ready to face the impending doom of my destiny. The alley is the end to my freedom. To my aspirations. To my life. I look ahead at the man that has been chasing me. I focus on his face, weathered by what has surely been a hundred lifetimes of pursuit. He slows to a halt as he discovers his prey is as good as caught, his expression still as stoic and unamused as the day he was assigned my capture. As he approaches, I fall to my knees, conceding to the fate that has befallen me. The man raises his gun and cocks it—a threat of violence melds with the air around us. I see now that this is death, preparing his scythe to extinguish my final breath.
Tommy Lee Jones has bested me at last.
